West Lafayette, IN - IPFW sophomore Katy Moore tied her own indoor high jump record by clearing 5-foot, 3-inches (1.60 meters) at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational, a final tune-up for the Summit League Championships, which will be competed on February 28 and March 1 in Fargo, North Dakota.
Moore's leap, which earned her a first place finish in the field, gives her nine of the ten highest clearances of any IPFW high jumper in school history. Classmate Whitney Lane triple jumped her way to a third place finish with a leap of 34-3.5 (10.45 meters), the third best leap in school history, as she now owns each of the top ten triple jump marks in program history. Lane then came back to place seventh in the 400-meter dash, running a personal-best time of 1:04.03.
Kim Matusik and Jessica McNulty took third and fourth in the 3,000-meter run, respectively. Matusik ran to a personal-best time of 10:47.68, becoming the 10th fastest 3k runner in school history, with McNulty also racing to a personal best time of 10:50.66.
Beth Hoekstra raced to a fourth place finish in the 1,000-meter run, running to a time of 3:03.32, just a second off of her own school record time, giving the senior the top two marks in the event.
Samantha Simonson placed fifth in the 800, running a personal IPFW best time of 2:22.28, the fourth fastest 800 ever ran at IPFW. Cari McAfoos also competed in the event, placing 11th in a time of 2:42.05.
Three Mastodon runners placed inside of the top seven in the mile, led by Felicia Mondry's 5:20.60, placing her fifth. Senior Annina Gruber ran a personal-best time of 5:23.76, making her the 10th fastest miler in program history, as Rachel Schultz finished just behind in a time of 5:28.20.
Theresa McHugh continued the trend of personal bests, as the freshman bettered her previous long jump best by over four inches, leaping to a distance of 15-2 (4.62 meters), and moving her into third on the all-time IPFW long jump list.
Courtney Bowen, the school record holder in both the indoor discus and the weight throw, placed 14th in the shot put in her final meet before the conference championships by throwing the implement a distance of 35-6.75 (10.84 meters). Kierstyn Jones set a new personal best with a toss of 33-5.75 (10.20 meters), as Courtney Trout rounded out the trio in the event with a toss of 23-5.50 (7.15 meters). Jones also competed in the weight throw, placing 24th with a career-best toss of 30-10.5 (9.41 meters), moving her into ninth place all time in the school's all-time list.
The Mastodons return to action in eight days when they travel to the great north of Fargo, North Dakota, as North Dakota State will play host to the 2010 Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships, starting on February 28, and concluding March 1.
