
Nine Season Bests Pace IPFW at Dave Rankin Invitational

West Lafayette, IN - Nine season bests, led by a second place finish from Crystina (Martinez) Ridenour in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, helped pace IPFW at the Dave Rankin Invitational, hosted by Purdue University.
Ridenour's time of 10:50.01 is a season-best for the fifth-year senior, and improves her place to 38th on the 2010 East Region Track & Field Result Reporting (TFRRS) list. Twin sister Crystal (Martinez) Reichert placed just behind her sister in a time of 10:53.60, which put her 43rd on the TFRRS list. Felicia Mondry (7th/11:33.66) and Annina Gruber (8th/12:18.81) rounded out the quartet of Mastodons in the field.
Sophomore Courtney Bowen nearly set a season best in the discus throw, placing seventh with a toss of 41.83 meters (137-feet, 3-inches), while also placing 16th in the shot put. Teammate Kierstyn Jones set a pair of season bests, the first coming in the shot put, where she placed 15th with a toss of 35-3.25 (10.75 meters), and the latter in the hammer throw with a season-best throw of 115-2 (35.10 meters).
Sara Branam also had a top-10 finish, coming in the hammer throw with a distance of 154-9 (47.18 meters). Courtney Trout rounded out the Mastodon throwers, as she put up a season-best toss of 71-8 (21.84 meters), placing 17th in the field.
Theresa McHugh paced the IPFW jumpers with a 31-foot triple jump (9.45 meters), with Katy Moore taking seventh in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-1.75 (1.57 meters).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Samantha Simonson, Moore, Sarah Hutchings, and Whitney Lane ran a season-best time of 4:18.29.
Simonson and Becca Selner finished back-to-back in the 1,500-meter run, Simonson running a time of 4:49.58, placing 14th, and Selner 4:50.27, placing 15th. Rachel Schultz also ran in the event, setting a new season-best with a time of 4:59.35.
Selner and Schultz finished neck-in-neck in the 800-meter run, Selner pacing the pair with a 25th place finish (2:27.09) with Schultz placing 28th in 2:28.28, another season-best. Sarah Hutchings placed 29th in a time of 2:31.96, as Cari McAfoos set a new season best with a time of 2:43.90, placing he 32nd. Nicky Parry also competed in the event, placing 33rd in a time of 2:51.92.
Kim Matusik and Jessica McNulty each competed in the event's longest race, the 5,000-meter run, as Matusik ran the 12.5 laps in a time of 18:47.97, placing 11th, and McNulty 19:50.56, placing her 16th.
Next weekend the Mastodons travel north to compete in the Hillsdale Relays, in Hillsdale, Michigan, taking part on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24.
