
Seven Season Bests Pave the Way at Hillsdale

Hillsdale, MI - The IPFW Mastodons used seven season-bests on the third and final day of competition at the 2010 Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, including a team season-best by Whitney Lane in the triple jump, and by Courtney Trout in the javelin.
Courtney Bowen had the team’s top finish, placing fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 136-feet, 5-inches (41.58m). Trout placed 24th in the field in the javelin, with a toss of 80-1 (24.40), nearly ten feet further than the previous team best this season.
Lane’s leap of 10.69 meters (35-1) is the best by any Mastodon this year, placing her 11th in the event.
Jessica McNulty narrowly missed her season-best in the 3,000-meter run, running to a time of 11:09.94, placing her 12th, as two of the three Mastodons entered in the 800-meter run set season bests in the event. Rachel Schultz led the way for the squad with a 42nd place finish, as she completed the two-lap race in a time of 2:27.06, with Cari McAfoos shaving over eight seconds over her previous best this season, placing 57th. Nicky Parry rounded out the trifecta of Mastodon runners, placing 68th in a time of 2:46.20.
A strong group of five Mastodons in the 1,500-meter run each placed between 42nd place and 59th place, led by Samantha Simonson’s 42nd place finish in a time of 4:52.70. Rachel Schultz ran a season-best time of 4:55.97, placing 49th, with teammate Becca Selner finishing directly behind in 50th place, with a time of 4:56.99. McNulty took 55th with a season-low time of 5:02.45, with Annina Gruber running a time of 5:04.88, placing 59th in her first time running the event this season.
Next weekend the squad travels to Toledo, Ohio, as they will compete in the Toledo Invitational, the site of the 2010 Summit League Outdoor Championships.
