West Lafayette, IN - IPFW sophomore Katy Moore broke the school record in the high jump, which she and Angie Suel had been sharing, by leaping to a height of 5-3.25 at the Mike Poehlin Invitational, hosted by Purdue University.
Moore's leap of 1.61 meters (5-feet, 3.25-inches), tops the old school record of 1.60 (5-3), set in 2006, and tied last year at the Summit League outdoor championships. Moore also competed in the 400-meter dash, placing 20th in the field in a time of 1:04.02 in the one-lap race.
On Friday the meet began with the hammer throw, where Sara Branam tossed the weight 43.80 meters (143-8).
Crystina (Martinez) Ridenour narrowly missed her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, running to a time of 10;51.92, just over a half second behind the individual champion. Twin sister Crystal (Martinez) Reichert finished third in a time of 11:00.01. Sarah Hutchings took fifth in 11:19.26, with Felicia Mondry (7th/11:41.68) and Annina Gruber (8th/11:46.03) also competing, the latter of the pair setting a new season best in the event.
Sophomore Whitney Lane placed eighth in the triple jump, just missing a season-best with a leap of 10.37 meters (34-0.25), as Courtney Bowen placed 12th in the discus (37.30 meters/122-4) and 20th in the shot put (10.45 meters/34-3.50).
Kim Matusik placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run, racing the 12.5 laps in a season-best time of 18:31.98, with teammate Jessica McNulty placing 15th in a time of 19:07.08.
Samantha Simonson took 13th in the 800-meter run, running the two-lap race in a time of 2:23.75, with Becca Selner bettering her previous season-best with a time of 2:27.07. Rachel Schultz took 28th in a time of 2:36.08 with Cari McAfoos (34th/2:44.78) and Nicky Parry (39th/2:58.32) rounding out the competitors for the Mastodons in the event.
Selner also took 16th in the 1,500-meter run, running a time of 4:55.65, a fraction of a second faster than her time at the Cincinnati Early Bird Relays, with Simonson placing 21st in a time of 5:02.60, and Schultz 23rd in 5:03.45.
The team will take to the road next weekend, when they travel to Macomb, Illinois, to compete at the Lee Calhoun Invitational, on the campus of Western Illinois University.
