
Oral Roberts Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader

Fort Wayne, IN - The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles hit their way to a doubleheader sweep of IPFW on Saturday afternoon by the finals of 15-4 and 13-5 to take three of four in the weekend series at Mastodon Field.
Game 1 was over for all intents and purposes in the first inning. Oral Roberts sent the first eight batters to the plate and scored 11 1st inning runs. Right fielder Nick Baligod got the scoring rolling with a three run homer to center field.
IPFW starter Ryan August was chased without getting an out in the frame.
IPFW's lone bright spot of the contest came in the third as junior right fielder Daren Boss launched his fourth homer of the season out of left field.
ORU added two in the fourth including a home run by first baseman P.J. Sequeira and two in the seventh on a two-run homer by catcher Bennett Pickar.
IPFW scored two in the bottom half of the seventh, but the game was called due to the 10-run rule, 15-4.
August took the loss (2-7) giving up eight runs oN five hits. Samuel Walker came on to pitch 7.0 innings. He gave up seven runs on nine hits. He struck out six and walked three.
ORU starter Jeff Burleson (6-2) went the distance giving up four runs (all earned) on five hits. He fanned 10 and walked three.
Oral Roberts (25-18, 13-3) got after it again in the first inning of Game 2. Shortstop Tyler Saladino went yard to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. ORU led 3-0 after a half an inning.
IPFW would make a charge in the bottom of the inning. After back-to-back singles, designated hitter Brett Clark plated the 'Dons first run with an RBI single to left field. Center fielder Kurt Dudley drove in two more with an RBI base-knock down the right field line. That was all for ORU starter Mark Guest. Golden Eagles' head coach Rob Walton called to his pen and brought on Dallas Beeler. Beeler was greated with a two-run single by second baseman Jason Doerffler to make it 5-3 IPFW.
But from there, Beeler and the ORU staff were lights-out. Beeler, Seth Furmanek and Sean Johnson combined on a seven-hit shutout the rest of the way.
Offensively, ORU tallied three in the second, one in the third and fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh for the final of 13-5.
Beeler got the win (1-0) going 3.2 innings. He struck out and walked two. IPFW starter Lucas Kesterson took the loss (1-7). He gave up seven runs (all earned) on 10 hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Nick Baligod went 15-19 in the series (.789). He hit four home runs and drove in 12 runs. He also had five doubles.
IPFW falls to 11-32 and 7-9 in league play.
