SCOUTING THE COUGARS
SIU Edwardsville, a school with an enrollment of 14,133 located in Edwardsville, Illinois, enters the Gates Sports Center off a 10-point road loss to #20 DePaul, falling 75-65 on Dec. 9
In the contest, the Cougars remained within striking distance of the nationally-ranked Blue Demons, even building an 18-9 lead early in the first half. However, a 21-2 DePaul run jump started the Blue Demon offense for the remainder of the game.
The Cougars are led by forward Michaela Herrod, who averages 12.6 points per contest. Center Raven Berry manages 10.4 points a game, while pacing the team in rebounds with a 9.8 average.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Anne Boese scored her 1,000th career point and moved atop the IPFW career three-point list, but the milestones were overshadowed by a Valparaiso 64-43 win over the Mastodons Tuesday evening in Valparaiso, Ind.
IPFW falls to 4-5 on the 2011-12 season, snapping a two-game winning streak. The Crusaders improve to 2-6 with the home win.
Despite the road loss, Boese passed former teammate Jordan Zuppe for first place on the all-time IPFW three-point list with 251 treys. Murphy led IPFW with 14 points, while Rosado posted eight. The Mastodons went 13-57 from the floor, while hitting 12-16 from the foul line.
REACHING A MILESTONE
IPFW seniors Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have both reached a major career milestone - 1,000 points. Rosado got her 1,000th point in the second half of the December 3 overtime victory over UMKC, while Boese reached the mark three days later on December 6 at Valparaiso. This is the second straight year that two players from the same IPFW women's basketball team reached the 1,000-point milestone in the same season, as Jordan Zuppe and Chelsey Jackson each accomplished the feat last season.
CAREER RECORD BREAKER
Not only is IPFW senior Anne Boese closing in on the All-Time Summit League three-point makes record, she recently broke the school career three-point makes record. Against Valparaiso on December 6, Boese passed former teammate Jordan Zuppe for the top spot on the list.
QUICK HITTERS
• Senior Anne Boese became the school's career record holder in three-point field goals made, as her total stands at 251, one more than former teammate Jordan Zuppe ended her career with.
• With her two-make effort against Valparaiso, Boese has climbed two spots on the Summit League career three-pointer list to third overall, and trails the all-time conference leader (Brenna Doty of Buffalo) by 11. She is in a neck-in-neck race with South Dakota State senior Jill Young for the career makes record, as Young has 242.
• In other milestone watches, over the past two games, both Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau. Rosado accomplished the feat against UMKC on December 3, while Boese did it against Valparaiso three days later.
• The Mastodons have made a three-point basket in 384 consecutive games, the fifth longest active streak in the NCAA.
