SCOUTING THE TITANS
The Detroit Titans welcome IPFW to Calihan Hall fresh-off a loss at Michigan on Dec. 8, 61-51. Detroit's lone win this season came against Ball State, as the Titans won in convincing fashion, 87-68. Detroit is led by freshman Shareta Brown, who paces the team in both points and rebounds. The 6-0, forward averages 16.7 points and 9.4 rebounds a contest, while hitting 53% of her shots from the field. Junior Chanahl Putnam manages 10.8 points a game, while leading the squad in three-points made with 15. Despite a 1-8 record, Detroit has faced a tough schedule so far in 2011. They open Horizon League competition on Dec. 29 against Butler. The Titans were picked to finish seventh in the 2011 Preseason Horizon League poll.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite receiving a trio of double-digit scoring performances, the IPFW women's basketball team fell to SIU Edwardsville 72-57 Sunday afternoon at the Gates Sports Center. IPFW fell to 4-6 (2-0) this season, while SIU Edwardsville jumped to 5-4. The Cougars committed just eight turnovers to the Mastodons 15. Rosado totaled a team-high 16 points, shooting 6-12 from the floor. Boese drained 11 points, while Hyde recorded 10. Haluska managed six points and a team-best seven rebounds. SIU Edwardsville's Katie Hempen led all scorers with 17 points.
REACHING A MILESTONE
IPFW seniors Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have both reached a major career milestone - 1,000 points. Rosado got her 1,000th point in the second half of the December 3 overtime victory over UMKC, while Boese reached the mark three days later on December 6 at Valparaiso. This is the second straight year that two players from the same IPFW women's basketball team reached the 1,000-point milestone in the same season, as Jordan Zuppe and Chelsey Jackson each accomplished the feat last season.
CAREER RECORD BREAKER
Not only is IPFW senior Anne Boese closing in on the All-Time Summit League three-point makes record, she recently broke the school career three-point makes record. Against Valparaiso on December 6, Boese passed former teammate Jordan Zuppe for the top spot on the list.
