Mastodons and Boilermakers Meet on the Big Ten Network Tuesday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons and Purdue Boilermakers will face off on Tuesday, December 20 at Mackey Arena, in the Mastodons' season debut on the Big Ten Network. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

According to the latest NCAA Statistical rankings, IPFW junior Frank Gaines currently ranks 11th in the country in points per game, averaging 21.4 per contest. He has reached the 20-point plateau in eight of the team's 10 games this season
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue comes into the Tuesday afternoon game looking to rebound from its 67-65 loss to Butler in the Crossroads Classic over the weekend.
Robbie Hummel leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game, while Ryne Smith and Lewis Jackson each average in double-figures with 11.1 and 10.8 points per game. Three others; Kelsey Barlow (8.0), Terone Johnson (7.3), and Anthony Johnson (7.0) give the Boilermakers six players averaging seven or more points per game.
Hummel is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 5.6 boards per contest, as Barlow is close behind with a 4.3 rebound per game average, as the Boilers out-rebound their opponents 36.0-to-34.6. Jackson leads the team with 50 assists, while Kelsey Barlow has a team-best 21 steals, and Hummel leading the team with 19 blocked shots.
AT THE SUMMIT
• The Summit League reached a new all-time high at No. 12 (as of Dec. 12) in both the Sagarin and RPI (Collegiate Basketball News) ratings, the third-best ranking among traditional “mid-majors.” The Summit League has three teams among the top 100 in each.
• The Summit League owns a winning percentage of .500 or better against 13 of the 15 mid-major conferences its teams have played this season.
• The Summit League owns a .509 winning percentage against Division I non-league opponents this season and a .579 winning percentage in all non-league games, both are on pace to shatter the previous best marks on record (since 1998-99).
• The Summit League has four players among the NCAA top 25 in scoring average (through Dec. 11) and five in the top 28, more than any other conference.
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW Mastodons put four players in double-figure scoring, led by Frank Gaines' 22, as the 'Dons never trailed in an 82-76 win over the UT Martin 82-76 on Sunday afternoon.
The Mastodons, who are riding a season-long five-game win streak, improve its record to 7-3 on the year, while UT Martin falls to 3-10 on the campaign.
Gaines' 22 was followed by Trey McCorkle's 17, Isaiah McCray's career-high 11, and Jonny Marlin's 10. McCorkle pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while McCray and John Peckinpaugh had five and four assists, apiece.
Jonny Marlin led the team with three steals, while Mario Hines had the team's only blocked shot.
IPFW jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead through the first minute and a half of the game, and never trailed again in the contest.
QUICK HITTERS
• Frank Gaines currently sits third in the Summit League and 11th in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game.
• After totaling one double-double over his first three seasons, IPFW senior Trey McCorkle has picked up two in the first nine games of the 2011-12 season.
• IPFW head coach Tony Jasick is 7-3 in his first season as head coach of the Mastodons
• Gaines saw his 19-game double-figure scoring streak snapped at Nebraska Omaha on December 11, being held to seven points. He has scored 20 or more in 10 of his last 12 games.
• Freshman Jonny Marlin's 5.4 assist per game average is fourth best in the Summit League and 46th in the country
• Trey McCorkle's field goal percentage of .600 puts him 23rd in the country
• IPFW has out-rebounded its opponents by an average of 6.5 rebounds per game, the 40th best total in the country.
