SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
The No. 20 Purdue Boilermakers enter Thursday's game against IPFW 9-3 overall in 2011, coming off a convincing win over Summit League opponent Oakland, 66-47 on Dec. 20. Purdue is 5-1 at home this season. On the offensive end, Purdue is led by senior Brittany Rayburn, who averages 15.1 points and 4.2 rebounds a game. She leads the team in field goals, free throws, three-pointers made and minutes. Kk Houser runs the point guard spot, pacing the squad with 4.2 assists per contest. As a team, Purdue shoots 40% from the floor and 29% from three-point range. The Boilermakers are 10-0 all-time against the Summit League and 2-0 all-time against IPFW. Purdue was picked to finish second in the Big Ten Coaches Poll, ranking as high as 12th nationally in the AP Poll earlier this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Rachel Mauk recorded a career-high 17 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough to slow down a hot-shooting Detroit team, as the Titans top IPFW 90-60 at Calihan Hall Sunday afternoon in Detroit, Mich. IPFW fell to 4-7 (2-0, SL) this season, while Detroit improved to 2-8. IPFW finished the contest shooting 35-percent (21-60) from the field, while hitting 14 of 18 free throws. Detroit managed a season-best 66-percent (38-58) shooting mark, outscoring the 'Dons 62-26 in the paint. Mauk led the 'Dons with a team-high 17 points, while Rosado finished with 14 and Murphy 12. Shearer led all scorers with a career-high 23 points to pace the Titans. Detroit outrebounded IPFW by a 40-23 margin.
REACHING A MILESTONE
IPFW seniors Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have both reached a major career milestone - 1,000 points. Rosado got her 1,000th point in the second half of the December 3 overtime victory over UMKC, while Boese reached the mark three days later on December 6 at Valparaiso. This is the second straight year that two players from the same IPFW women's basketball team reached the 1,000-point milestone in the same season, as Jordan Zuppe and Chelsey Jackson each accomplished the feat last season.
CAREER RECORD BREAKER
Not only is IPFW senior Anne Boese closing in on the All-Time Summit League three-point makes record, she recently broke the school career three-point makes record. Against Valparaiso on December 6, Boese passed former teammate Jordan Zuppe for the top spot on the list.
IPFW ONLY PLEASE
Many media outlets have incorrectly referred to IPFW as “IU-PU Fort Wayne” or just “Fort Wayne” - please be advised that this is incorrect. The only correct reference is IPFW when referring to the school's athletic teams. Also the nickname is only Mastodons. Lady Mastodons/'Dons is an incorrect reference when talking about the women's teams at IPFW.
