Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW men's basketball team travels to Indianapolis on Thursday night for an important Summit League match-up with the IUPUI Jaguars. The Mastodons (14-7, 8-3 SL) are currently in second place in the conference just a half game ahead of the Jags (13-10, 7-3 SL). For the second straight year, this game will be played at Conseco Fieldhouse.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons are led in scoring by senior guard Ben Botts (6-0/170/Muncie, IN) at 14.0 points a game.
Sophomore guard Frank Gaines (6-5/190/Ft.Lauderdale, FL) is averaging 13.0 points a game, and junior guard Jeremy Mixon (6-1/175/Indianapolis, IN) rounds out the top-three scorers for the 'Dons at 10.7 points a contest.

Frank Gaines has been named The Summit League Co-Player of the Week. Gaines averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds and set a career-high with 4 blocks vs. ORU. It is Gaines' first conference honor. He shares the award with Eric Carlson of North Dakota State (25.5 ppg.) With their 19-20 performance against ORU, IPFW has moved up to 3rd nationally in free throw shooting percentage. At 79.1% on the year, IPFW trails just Harvard (79.7%) and Wisconsin (81.8%). Gaines is 11-11 in his last two games, junior forward Trey McCorkle is 9-9. IPFW is again receiving votes in the Mid-Major Top 25 (5).
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI is led in scoring by junior G/F Alex Young (6-6/200/Indianapolis, IN) who is averaging a league best 19.3 points a game. Senior guard Leroy Nobles (6-5/195/Louisville, KY) is second on the team and sixth in the conference in scoring at 16.7 ppg., while junior guard Stephen Thomas (6-1/170/Indianapolis, IN) rounds out the top-three in scoring at 10.5 points a contest.

IUPUI owns a 19-10 all-time series lead over IPFW. Included in that mark is a 10-2 mark at the D-I level. Last time out, IUPUI overcame a 16-point first half deficit and got a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds from junior Christian Siakam as the Jaguars escaped Fort Wayne with a 78-74 win. Leroy Nobles scored eight straight points late in the second half to give IUPUI the lead for good. Last year, at Conseco Fieldhouse, IPFW won in overtime, 62-60 on Zach Plackemeier's 17-footer as time ran out. IUPUI is also receiving votes in the Mid-Major Top 25 (5).
