Mastodons Clinch Second Seed with win at Southern Utah

Cedar City, UT - IPFW put five players in double figures, and had a sixth with nine points, as the balanced effort helped to pace the Mastodons to a 90-68 victory over the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds in the 2010-11 regular season finale.
The win improves IPFW's record to 19-9 on the year, and 13-5 in league play, while Southern Utah falls to 16-13 overall, and 10-8 in the Summit League. IPFW's league record has clinched sole possession of second place in the upcoming Summit League Tournament, and will face off against seventh seed UMKC in the opening round on March 5, while Southern Utah falls to the fifth seed, and will face fourth seed Oakland in the tournament.
Amanda Hyde scored a career-high 21 points, making 5-of-7 shots from long range, while Chelsey Jackson and Jordan Zuppe each scored 17. Sydney Weinert tied her career-high with 14 points, with Stephanie Rosado scoring 10, and Anne Boese nine.
Weinert and Zuppe each pulled down five rebounds, while Jackson and Zuppe dished out five assists. Jackson picked up five steals, with Rosado adding four.
IPFW led wire-to-wire, scoring the first nine points of the game, and never trailing over the length of the contest. The first-half lead grew to 10 at 14-4 with 13:45 to play in the opening half, before the Thunderbirds fought back to within five at 20-15.
The deficit was cut to as few as four at 34-30 with 1:35 to play in the opening 20 minutes, before Weinert ran off a 5-0 run to end the first half, with IPFW taking a 39-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Southern Utah scored first out of the break, and trailed by seven at 41-34 before IPFW ran off a 13-2 run to push the advantage to 18 with 14:25 remaining in the game.
The Mastodon lead never dipped into single digits, and closed at 22, with the final score of 90-68.
IPFW made 34-of-67 shots from the field, the 10th time this season the 'Dons have hit over half of its shots in a game. The Mastodons also hit 12-of-25 shots from long range (.480 percent), and 10-of-11 (.909 percent) from the charity stripe. Southern Utah hit half of its 44 shots, and 21-of-23 (.913 percent) of its free throws.
Caitlyn Sears scored a game-high 25 points, hitting 10-of-17 shots from the field while Challis Pascucci scored 19 and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, with Desiree Jackson scoring 13 points. Kaila Goff dished out a game-high six assists, while Pascucci had a pair of blocked shots.
