Little Rock, AR - IPFW starter Nick Opitz and UALR starter Garret Graziano put together an outstanding early season duel, but the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans were able to squeeze past the Mastodons, 2-0 in the opening game of a three-game set at Gary Hogan Field on Friday afternoon.

Opitz (0-1) went 5.1 innings, giving up just five hits and both Trojan runs. He struck out four and walked three in the loss.

Graziano (2-1) tossed 8.0 innings of three-hit ball, keeping the 'Dons off the board by fanning three and walking two.

UALR (5-5) got on the board in the 2nd inning on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Hector Acosta that scored third baseman Casey McCollum from third.

The only other run of the game came in the 6th inning on an RBI single to center from catcher Nick Rountree.

Travis Henke came on in the 9th inning to save the game, striking out a pair to end the contest.

Rountree and left fielder Sean Bignall had a pair of hits for the Trojans.

IPFW right fielder Daren Boss and shortstop Will Faulkner each had a pair of hits for the 'Dons. Faulkner had the only extra base hit for IPFW with a double.

Matt Ransbottom worked 0.2 of an inning in relief and Ryan Jensen came on to throw one-hit ball over the final two frames of the contest.

With the loss, the Mastodons fall to 0-2 on the young season. The series will continue Saturday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
