Walker Pitches IPFW to Split with UALR on Getaway Day

Little Rock, AR - Senior starter Samuel Walker tossed a complete game six-hitter, and the IPFW bats came alive in Game 2 to stave off a series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. Arkansas-Little Rock stormed to a Game 1, 16-3 victory, but Walker tossed IPFW to a 7-2 win in the nightcap.
Game 1:
The Trojans (6-6) tallied in every inning of the baseball game in Game 1. UALR put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh, two coming on an RBI double by designated hitter Justin Barnes.
Barnes had five RBI in the game. The Trojans pounded out 16 hits in the 16-3 win. UALR starter Daniel Golden went 5.0 innings for the win.
IPFW starter Lucas Kesterson took the loss, allowing six runs in 5.0 innings of work. Senior third baseman Cory Miller was 2-3 for the Mastodons in the game.
Game 2:
IPFW backed up Walker with a five-spot in the top of the 3rd inning. The Mastodons got runs on an RBI double by center fielder Kurt Dudley, and single base hits by first baseman A.J. Christensen, right fielder Daren Boss and left fielder Nate Thomas.
Thomas and Dudley each had a pair of RBI in the win.
Dillon Wilson took the loss for UALR, lasting just 2.2 innings. He gave up five runs, all earned, on three hits. He walked four and struck out none.
Walker gave up just the two earned runs. He fanned nine and walked three.
With the split, IPFW improves to 1-3 on the season. IPFw returns to action on Friday at Murray State. It will be a four-game set at MSU.
