North Tonawanda, NY - The IPFW men's tennis team topped the Niagara Purple Eagles, 5-2, on Sunday in North Tonawanda, New York to move to 7-7 on the dual season overall.
Against NIU in doubles action, the 'Dons lone win came at the No. 2 position after the IPFW duo of Daniel Kang and Junya Saruta won 8-4. The Purple Eagles claimed the No.1 and 3 spot for the doubles point after they edged by the 'Dons, 8-6, in both positions.
In singles play, the Mastodons claimed all but one match. Winning in two sets for IPFW were Roberto Cabrini at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-2, Kang at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-1, and Saruta at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, Francisco Sigaud rallied for a three-set win, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-3, while Eduardo Sztrajtman won 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, at the No. 6 spot.
The Mastodons were scheduled to play against Colgate tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in Hamilton, New York, however, due to a snowstorm the match was canceled. The women's match that was scheduled for 3:00 p.m. was also canceled. The 'Dons will now return to action against Western Michigan on March 22 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
