BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In just her second meet as a collegiate athlete, IPFW freshman Kayla Zink smashed the school record in the shot put, placing sixth in the field.
Zink's toss of 41-feet, 5.75-inches (12.64 meters) is nearly three feet further than the previous record of 38-11.85 (11.88 meters) set by Loree Grimm during the 2006 season. Zink took sixth in the field, while placing 10th in the weight throw with the 10th furthest distance in school history for the event with a toss of 43-0 (13.12 meters). Courtney Bowen placed 12th for IPFW in the shot put with a toss of 36-6.25.
Katy Moore placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:02.10, the third fastest quarter-mile time in program history, while teammate Kaylin Taylor finished just behind Moore in a time of 1:02.73, the fourth fastest time in school history. Moore also placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-1 (1.55 meters), tied for the fifth best performance in the event in school history.
Theresa McHugh finished sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 33-4.5 (10.17 meters), as she moved into second for the furthest jumper in program history, while Nicole Urdahl took eighth (31-8.5 / 9.66 meters), becoming the fifth longest jumper in the history of the program.
Jordan Tomecek, Rebecca Jacobs, and Rachel Zachar each pulled double-duty in distance events, competing in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs. Tomecek took fifth in the 5k, running the 25-lap race in a time of 18:54.12, while Jacobs (8th) and Zachar (9th) finished in times of 19:03.39 and 19:04.46, respectively.
Jacobs was the team's top finisher in the 3k, taking 17th in a time of 11:19.86. Zachar (19th / 11:25.51), Tomecek (20th / 11:26.34), and Amaya Ayers (22nd / 11:28.63) competed in the near-two-mile race. Ayers competed in a different distance double, also running in the mile, crossing the tape in a time of 5:50.92, good for 16th place.
