FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's basketball team used a total team effort on Monday night to defeat the Longwood Lancers by the final score of 73-54. Every Mastodon that entered the game scored at least two points as senior Anne Boese led IPFW with 20.
IPFW used an 11-0 run in the first half to grab a lead and they never looked back, improving to 7-11 on the year. Boese provided plenty of offense early as she was a perfect 4-for-4 from three point land in the first half. The senior ended the game with six 3-pointers.
Amanda Hyde and Erin Murphy also reached double figure scoring for IPFW. Hyde pulled down seven boards and added four assists before fouling out, while Murphy made the Lancers pay from the charity stripe connecting on all five of her opportunities.
Both Rebecca Bruner and Mur Hagerman set career-highs in the rebound category. Bruner ended the game with seven, including three on the offensive end, beating her old mark of four set at South Dakota State on Dec. 31. Hagerman also had three offensive rebounds plus one defensive.
Brittanni Billups scored a game-high 21 points for Longwood. Billups hit 8-of-10 from the field and also led the Lancers in rebounds with seven. Chelsea Coward also played well for Longwood ending the game 13 points.
Head Coach Chris Paul went to his bench on Monday night at the Gates Sports Center and that group responded as IPFW's reserves outscored Longwood 24-6. Longwood scored the first bucket of the game, but would never lead again as the Mastodons hit 49 percent from the floor, including 47 percent from three point range.
IPFW will return to conference play this weekend with road contests against Southern Utah and Oral Roberts. The Mastodons face Southern Utah on Saturday, Jan 21 at 7:00 p.m. The road swing will end with a game at Oral Roberts on the 23 at 8:05 p.m.
