SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons come into the Friday night meeting with a 4-0-1 record in their last five games, improving to 4-1-1 in Summit League play, and sitting in first place in the Summit League standings heading into the final weekend.
IPFW got to this position after a thrilling 3-2 win over the Oakland Grizzlies, in which the Mastodons trailed 2-0 after the first 28 minutes of the game, but scored twice in the first half and once more in the second to take away the one-goal victory.
This season seniors Danielle Bishop and Arianne Mason lead the team with four goals apiece, as Sydney Hoareau and Erin Gill each have three. Rachel Good has scored twice, with Rhea Proctor and Cassie Egle each scoring once. Of Bishop's four goals, three have been game-winners.
Tylar Allison leads the team with four assists, as she now owns the single-season and career assist records at IPFW. Hoareau has two helpers, while eight other players (Bishop, Mason, Gill, Good, Proctor, Maya Reyes, Amber Lawrence, and Sam Pavlika) each have one assist.
Pavlika, the team's freshman goalkeeper, has been in goal for the entire season for IPFW, and has a 1.03 goals against average with 65 saves and a school-record-tying four shutouts.
SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois comes into the Friday evening game included in the tight pack at the top of the Summit League standings, a point behind first-place IPFW, and tied with Oakland and North Dakota State.
This season the Leathernecks kicked off the year strong, running off win streaks of six and five games, sitting with an 11-2 record through 13 matches of the season, before dropping both ends of a road swing at North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
Katie Condon and Sarah Hall lead the team with five goals apiece, while Jordan Walgren and Skyler Jessop have scored four, and three others: Sloane Levin, Sarah Wright, and Chrissy Campbell each have added three. Kellie Julius has dished out a team-best five assists, while Levin has four, and Miranda Graham three.
The Leathernecks have implemented a two-goalie system with Victoria Kappel and Laura Atkinson splitting the minutes on the year; however, Atkinson has taken nearly all of the time in Summit League play. Kappel has the better goals against average of the two for the year at 0.56, while Atkinson stands at 0.68 with a team-high 45 saves and five shutouts.

The last time the two teams met in Fort Wayne was two years ago, capping the Western Illinois five-game win streak in the series, as the Leathernecks won 1-0 in double overtime, while the Mastodons exacted revenge last season with a physical 4-3 win in Macomb.
