
Leathernecks to Visit the Gates Sports Center on Monday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's volleyball team will return to the Gates Sports Center on Monday night to face the Western Illinois Leathernecks at 7 p.m. The Mastodons are on a seven-game winning streak and have not lost a home match since Aug. 25.
ABOUT IPFW
IPFW had to fight back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat the Omaha Mavericks 3-2 on Friday night. Haley Emenhiser led IPFW with a career-high 18 kills and a season-high five digs. Emily Spencer also impacted the match with 16 kills and a season-high 18 digs.
The Mastodons are 16-3 overall with a 6-1 Summit League record entering Monday night. Emily Spencer is leading the team in kills (280), points (322.5), and is tied for the team lead in service aces with 17. The senior duo of Tessa McGill and Megan Steenhuysen has been outstanding for IPFW as McGill leads the defense with 421 digs, and Steenhuysen sets up the offensive attack with a team-high 844 assists.
Middle hitters Jessie Manwaring and Hailie Ripley have put together great seasons for IPFW. Manwaring has 186 kills on the year and has posted a great attack percentage (.339). She leads the team in solo blocks with 17 and is second on the squad in total blocks with 62. Ripley has been a force in the front line as the redshirt freshman has 137 kills at the net to go along with a team-high 70 blocks.
SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
The Western Illinois Leathernecks are currently 8-10 overall with a 2-5 mark in Summit League action. They were recently defeated 3-0 by IUPUI on Saturday, Oct. 6 after sweeping a match at Saint Louis on Oct. 2.
Western Illinois picked up two league wins on the road by defeating Oakland 3-2, and North Dakota State 3-2. The team has a better record on the road than at home as four of their eight wins have been away from Western Hall. The Leathernecks are also used to playing in highly competitive matches as the team posts a 4-3 record in games that go a full five sets.
Samantha Fournier leads the team in kills with 244. Fournier averages 3.39 kills per set, but is only hitting .184 on the season. Katie Hosteng has been an impact player for the Leathernecks all season long as she currently sits in second on the team in kills with 209. She leads the club in attack percentage (.319), service aces (19), and blocks (55).
Five players have at least 100 digs for the Leathernecks. Leading the team is senior Bridget Murphy with 353. The offensive leader for Western Illinois is junior Sarah Fetter. Fetter is averaging 10.42 assists per set giving her 750 total on the season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
IPFW leads the all-time series over Western Illinois 10-2. The first match between the two programs happened back on Sept. 21, 2002. IPFW won the game 3-0 and would go on to win the first six matches between the two schools.
Western Illinois recorded their first win over IPFW in 2009. They came back and took another win over the 'Dons in the 2010 season. IPFW has defeated Western Illinois in each of the last three meetings, including a 3-0 victory over the Leathernecks in November, 2011.
CAN YOU DIG IT?
Tessa McGill is leading the team, Summit League, and is fourth in the NCAA in digs per set (6.03). She set her season-high mark of 29 digs vs. Michigan State and has gone on to tie it three times in matches against IUPUI, North Dakota State and most recently at Omaha. The senior has recorded 20 digs or more in 13 matches and is currently second all-time at IPFW and fifth all-time in the Summit League with 1,990 career digs.
SUMMIT LEAGUE LEADER
Megan Steenhuysen leads the Summit League in assists per set with an average of 12.09. She has led the team in assists during every match this season which has her ranked 6th in the NCAA in assists per set. Steenhuysen's season-high assist total of 65 was set in a five set win over North Dakota State.
SUPER SOPHOMORE
Emily Spencer picked up where she left off a year ago as one of the top offensive weapons on the IPFW roster. Spencer is leading the team in kills (280), points (322.5) and in points per set (4.74). She recorded a season-high 21 kills against Ball State on Aug. 28 and recently tied that mark with 21 against North Dakota State. Spencer is leading the team with 11 double-doubles on the year. She recorded a double-double in every match at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational and most recently at Omaha with 16 kills and 18 digs.
QUICK HITTERS
• IPFW is on a seven-game winning streak. They posted a record of 11-2 during the month of September.
• October 8th has been good to the Mastodons in the past as the team is 13-2 all-time when playing on this date.
• The Mastodons ranked 55th overall in the latest NCAA Women's Volleyball RPI Rankings.
• Erica Dryden recorded a career-high four service aces against Omaha.
• Haley Emenhiser set a new career-high against the Mavericks by recording 18 kills.

double in a win over Omaha with a season-high 18 digs and 16 kills.
• The win over Omaha gave Head Coach Kelley Hartley Hutton 425 career wins, 288 of those have came at IPFW.
• The Mastodons recorded their 100th win against a Summit League opponent after defeating Omaha on Friday, Oct. 5.
• IPFW has not lost a home match since August 25.
