
Eastern Michigan Defeats IPFW 6-1

YPSILANTI, Mich. - IPFW dropped its lone match of the weekend when they were defeated by Eastern Michigan 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Ypsilanti, Mich., at the Chippewa Club.
The Mastodons fall to 3-4 on the year while the Eagles move to 4-5, thus far.
In doubles play, IPFW was swept by EMU. The duo of Frederique Sunstrum and Raquel Vescovi were defeated 8-3 at the No. 3 slot while Marcy Huck and Caterina Kiefer fell 8-1 at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, Alex Forysth and partner Anita Henestrosa were blanked 8-0.
Kiefer picked up the 'Dons lone victory at the No. 6 singles position where she won in a three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
In another three-set match, Huck picked up the first set 7-5, but then fell 6-4, 8-10 at the No. 2 position.
IPFW had a couple of other close matches at Nos. 1 and 5, but Henestrosa was defeated 6-2, 6-4 while Forsyth was defeated 6-3, 6-4, respectively.
The Mastodon netters will return to action with three matches at home next weekend. On Friday (Feb. 17), they will face Toledo at 7 p.m. and on Saturday (Feb. 18) they will take on Eastern Illinois and Green Bay at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. All matches are set to take place at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne.
