FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team went 1-1 on Friday after they blanked Grace College, 7-0, but then fell, 6-1, to Toledo at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne.

The day began with doubles play where IPFW (4-4) swept GC in dominating fashion, highlighted by an 8-1 win at No. 1 with the tandem of freshman Marcy Huck and junior Caterina Kiefer. Seniors Raquel Vescovi and Frederique Sunstrum were perfect at the No. 2 spot when they picked up an 8-0 win.

The 'Dons continued to not drop a match against the Lancers when they swept singles play. Freshman Alyssa Tucker blanked Esther Smith, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 position. Junior Anita Henestrosa and Sunstrum each won, 6-1, 6-0, at Nos. 1 and 4, respectively.

In doubles action against UT, IPFW claimed the No. 3 spot in a win by default, but the Rockets managed to pick up an 8-2 win at No. 1 and took the No. 2 slot in a close match, 8-6, for the doubles point.

The Mastodons' lone win in the match against the Rockets was at the No. 6 singles spot in a win by default. At No. 5, Kiefer netted a 6-2 win after falling, 6-2, in her first set, but then fell,10-5, in the third set. In close matches, Vescovi suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 2 and senior Alex Forsyth was defeated, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4.

IPFW will have another doubleheader tomorrow in matches against Eastern Illinois and Green Bay at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, in Fort Wayne at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club.
