
‘Dons Compete at Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Five members of the IPFW women's track and field team competed in the Akron Invitational over the weekend. The Mastodons performed very well in the 5000-meter run and two student-athletes got the unique opportunity to throw the discus during the indoor season.
Sarah Hutchings led a trio of Mastodons in the 5000-meter run. The senior placed fifth overall with a time of 17:44.74. The season-best time of 17:44.74 is the eighth-best time recorded in school history. Hutchings also moves to third all-time on the IPFW Performer List following only Crystina and Crystal Martinez.
Jordan Tomecek placed eighth in the event, while Rebecca Jacobs rounded out the group for IPFW. Tomecek climbed to fifth all-time on the IPFW Performer List with a time of 18:05.91. Jacobs also made the cut moving to 10th with her time of 18:42.90.
Off the track, it was Kayla Zink and Courtney Bowen that had the chance to compete in the discus. Zink finished seventh overall with a distance of 145-1 (44.24m). Bowen placed ninth overall with a mark of 130-3 (39.70m).
IPFW will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they compete in the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational. The Summit League Championships will be held the following weekend.
