Pair of Records Fall in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Two school records and 11 personal records fell on Saturday afternoon, as the Mastodon Track & Field squad competed at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational in the team's final tune-up before hosting the 2012 Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Records in the 200-meter dash and the triple jump went by the wayside, as Kaylin Taylor topped the previous record in the 200, while Theresa McHugh inked her name to the record board in the triple jump.
Taylor's time of 26.61 in the 200-meter dash gave her a third place finish, and edging out the former record of 26.62 set a season ago by Jasmine Perry, and gives Taylor her second school record this season after running a leg on the school-record 4x400-meter relay. Three others in the 200 for IPFW set new personal collegiate bests, as Courtney Hodgen took fifth in a time of 27.63, before Nicole Urdahl (28.45) and Olivia Trimble (28.55) took eighth and ninth, respectively. Emily Craig rounded out the quintet of Mastodons in the field by placing 11th in 29.20.
In the triple jump, McHugh broke the former school record by over four inches, as her top leap of 34-feet, 10.5-inches (10.63 meters) topped the previous mark of 34-6.25 (10.52 meters) held by former teammate Whitney Lane.
Sarah Hutchings took top honors in the mile, running to a time of 5:05.45, the second-fastest mile time in school history, before taking third in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the tape in 10:36.48. Three others competed for IPFW in the 3k, as Jordan Tomecek was a fraction of a second behind Hutchings, placing fourth with a collegiate personal-best time of 10:36.67. Rebecca Jacobs (11th/11:04.72) and Amaya Ayers (12th/11:11.62) rounded out the four runners in the event.
Kayla Zink picked up the program's fourth-best shot put distance by placing seventh with a toss of 41-3.75 (12.59), as teammate Courtney Bowen placed 16th (35-3.75 / 10.75). Zink also took 18th in the weight throw (40-3.25 / 12.27) as McHugh placed 22nd (34-6.75 / 10.53).
In the high jump Katy Moore placed fifth by clearing 5-1 (1.55 meters), tied for the ninth-highest final clearance in school history.
Taylor led a quartet of Mastodon racers in the 400-meter dash with a fifth-place time of 1:01.12, the fourth fastest quarter-mile in school history, while Moore took sixth in a time of 1:01.74, the sixth fastest 400 ever run by a Mastodon female. Emily Craig (8th/1:04.79) and Olivia Trimble (9th/1:06.21) each set personal bests in the event in the process.
Hodgens, in addition to her personal best in the 200-meter dash, took third in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 8.27, while Madelaine Bacyzinski placed 10th in a time of 9.19 seconds. Urdahl added a time of 9.93 in the 60-meter hurdles, the ninth fastest time in program history, as Alexis Minier took 15th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:56.74, a collegiate personal-best for the freshman.
