Boese Shines on Senior Night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The senior class led the Mastodons to victory on Monday night as IPFW defeated Southern Utah at the Gates Sports Center by the final score of 70-60. Anne Boese scored a game-high 19 points in the win.
Boese hit five 3-point field goals against the Thunderhawks. She ended the game 7-for-10 from the field. Sarah Haluska and Amanda Hyde impacted the game in many ways. Haluska scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Hyde posted 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior Stephanie Rosado was a force inside for the Mastodons. Rosado scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
Andrea Jones was the leading scorer for Southern Utah. Jones recorded 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a losing effort. Tayler Anderson scored 10 points and the duo of Carli Moreland and Kimie Hawkins scored seven each.
The senior class allowed IPFW to get out to a quick 9-0 lead. Haluska scored the first bucket of the game and Boese added five quick points. Rosado pushed the lead to 9-0 after hitting a jumper from the elbow.
Boese hit her first three 3-point field goal attempts of the game posting 11 points in the first eight minutes of action. Midway through the opening half it was IPFW leading 24-8. Southern Utah switched to a 2-3 zone, but the IPFW offense adjusted taking a 38-19 lead into halftime.
The Thunderbirds opened the second frame on an 8-4 run. Each team came out of the locker room playing a physical brand of basketball as the officials whistled nine fouls in just six minutes of play. Boese picked up her fourth personal foul with 12:05 to play forcing her to sit on the IPFW bench.
Boese returned to action after the 8:00 media timeout with the score reading 55-37 in favor of the 'Dons. Southern Utah picked up full court pressure and went on an 11-2 run cutting the lead to 57-48. Boese hit a big 3-pointer and Hyde followed with a bucket pushing the lead to 64-50. IPFW kept the momentum sealing their ninth win of the year (6-10 Summit).
IPFW will end the regular season next weekend with a pair of road games. The 'Dons will first travel to UMKC on Saturday, Feb. 25. The season finale will be played at South Dakota on Monday, Feb. 27. IPFW clinched a spot in this year's 2012 Summit League Tournament. South Dakota will serve as the host for this year's action. The quarterfinals begin on March 3.
