Mastodon Netters Fall to Wright State and Detroit, 4-3

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team dropped two close 4-3 matches on Friday when they played Wright State and Detroit at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.. With the losses, the 'Dons fall to 6-7 on the dual season.

The day started out against the Raiders where the Mastodons picked up a win in doubles action at the No. 2 spot with Alex Forsyth and Anita Henestrosa, 9-8 (4), however, WSU managed to grab No. 1 and 3 for the doubles point.

The two teams split singles play both earning three wins. IPFW picked up wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 5. Henestrosa claimed No. 1 in a 6-2, 6-2 win while Caterina Kiefer also won 6-2, 6-2 but at the No. 4 spot. Forsyth forced a three-set match at No. 5 for the 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.

Against the Titans, IPFW claimed the No. 3 spot in doubles in a win by default but UDM earned the doubles point because of wins at Nos. 1 and 2.

Henestrosa remained undefeated in singles play during the day after she picked up another win at the No. 1 spot, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, against Detroit. In another three-set match win for the 'Dons, Marcy Huck won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 slot. IPFW picked up a win by default to earn another singles point.

The Mastodon netters will return to action against Southeast Missouri State on March 10 in Warsaw, Ind. at the YMCA. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
