VERMILLION, S.D. – The IPFW women's basketball team finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-20, including a 6-12 mark in Summit League play. They enter the 2012 Summit League Tournament as the eight-seed and will face top ranked South Dakota State in the first round.
The Mastodons got off to a rough start offensively shooting just 29 percent from the floor in the first half (7-for-24). They improved that number to 47 percent in the second half, but the 13 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as South Dakota picked up the 70-56 victory.
Amanda Hyde scored a team-high 14 points on Monday night. She added five rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes of action. Stephanie Rosado also reached double figure scoring for IPFW. Rosado ended the game with 11 points, two rebounds, and two blocks.
All 12 players on the IPFW roster got in the game Monday night, and 11 of the 12 attempted at least one field goal. Sarah Haluska scored eight, while Mur Hagerman and Haley Seibert each chipped in with five.
Anne Boese hit her 300th career 3-point field goal against South Dakota on Monday night. She finished with two overall, posting six points.
Amber Hegge was a key component for South Dakota in the win over IPFW. Hegge shot 8-of-15 from the floor to record a game-high 28 points for the Coyotes. Hegge ended the night with a double-double as she also pulled down 10 rebounds.
A Rosado layup at the 13:57 mark in the first half cut the South Dakota lead to one, 11-10. The Coyotes rattled off the next eight straight points pushing the lead to 19-10, and they kept the momentum throughout the half as Annie Roche drained a 3-point field goal with time running out in the first half. South Dakota led by double digits for most of the second half and would go on to record their 21st win of the season.
IPFW will face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the 2012 Summit League Tournament on Saturday, March 3.
