Women's Tennis Takes Down Wittenberg and St. Joseph's (Ind.)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Mastodon netters closed out their weekend play in 7-0 wins over Wittenberg and St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Fort Wayne at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club en route to a 3-3 overall record thus far.

Against Wittenberg in doubles play, the Mastodons were able to pick up all three wins for the doubles point. IPFW had a perfect match at the No. 3 position when Frederique Sunstrum and Raquel Vescovi won 8-0 over Kristin Wright and Jessica Coggins.

In singles action against the Tigers, the 'Dons didn't drop a match to seal the team win. Vescovi blanked Alex Cummins of Wittenberg 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 slot while Anita Henestrosa earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Leah Ann Miller at No. 1.

In doubles action against the Pumas, the pair of Alex Forsyth and Henestrosa blanked Debra Easton-Bates and Natalie Burgeson 8-0 at the No. 2 slot while the Mastodons also picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to seal the doubles point.

In singles play, the Mastodons earned all six wins. At the No. 3 position, Marcy Huck was perfect in her match against Brooke Foltz of St. Joseph's (Ind.) and won 6-0, 6-0 while Sunstrum won 6-0, 6-1 over Katie Guernsey at No. 5.

The Mastodons will return to action when they head to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on Eastern Michigan on Friday (Feb. 10) at 1 p.m.
