LAS VEGAS - The IPFW women's tennis team finished the second day of the Summit League cluster with a 5-2 win over Southern Utah on Friday afternoon at Bally's Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.
In the third win of the cluster, the Mastodons improve to 10-7 overall and 3-0 in conference action, while the Thunderbirds fall to 4-4 (1-1).
In doubles action, Alex Forsyth and Anita Henestrosa blanked Ksusha Johnson and Lisa Pleskan, 8-0, at the No. 2 slot. SUU's Alex Ivanova and Olia Tatarchenko earned an 8-3 win over IPFW's Marcy Huck and Caterina Kiefer at No. 1 position. However, the 'Dons earned the doubles point with a win by default at No. 3 for the 1-0 lead.
The 'Dons picked up wins at Nos. 4, 1, 5 and 6, respectively, in singles play. Kiefer had a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win at the No. 4 position against Pleskan, while Henestrosa followed up in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Johnson at No. 1. Forsyth sealed the team win for IPFW when she took down Afton Staheli at the No. 5 position in 6-2 wins. The No. 6 slot came in a win by default for the Mastodons.
IPFW will face IUPUI tomorrow to close out this weekend's play. Match time is set for 4 p.m. (EST) at Bally's Resort.
