Softball Hosts Eastern Michigan in Mid-Week Contest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After playing 14 innings in their last game, the IPFW Mastodons play host to the Eastern MIchigan Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at the IPFW Softball Field.

ABOUT IPFW
IPFW's current 22-7 record is tied for the best 29-game start in program history, and the win total is tied for the third highest in program history (behind only the 29 wins in 2010 and 28 victories in 2011).
This season the team is led by Alex Bousquet, who has a .373 batting average and 22 runs scored. Brittany Kachur has a .378 batting average in just 45 plate appearances, while Larissa Franklin and Mackenzie Ritsema are batting .348 and .344, respectively. Ashleigh Bousquet leads a trio of 'Dons with 20 or more RBI's with 26, while Courtney Cronin has 24 and Alex Bousquet 22. Cronin and Alex Bousquet have five and four home runs, each, while Kayti Hanson drawing a team-best 20 walks and scoring 20 times, second-most on the team.
In the circle the team has a trio of pitchers below a 2.00 ERA, led by 2010 All-Region pitcher Courtney Cronin who has a 0.93 ERA with an 11-2 record in 15 starts, including five shutouts. Megan Flenniken is 6-3 with a 1.27 ERA, while Miranda Kramer is 5-2 with a 1.69 ERA and a pair of saves.
ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN
Eastern Michigan is still in the midst of a 32-game road trip to open the season, as the Eagles' first home game isn't until May 6 against Northern Illinois. Despite being on the road for the first two and a half months of the season, the team has a 9-15 record.
Offensively the team is led by Katy Blaharski, who has a .373 batting average with 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Jessica Richards is the only other Eagle above a .300 batting average at .329, and has scored 19 runs and stolen 16 bases. Nellie Coquillard has a team-high three home runs and 12 RBI, as McKenna Russ is the only other Eagle with double-figure RBI with 11.
Jenna Ignowski leads EMU with a 6-3 overall record, starting in 11 of the team's 24 games, and has a 2.57 ERA in 60 innings of work with 46 strikeouts. Lauren Wells is 2-6 with a 2.96 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 45 innings, as Lindsay Rich is 1-6 with a 4.56 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 43 frames.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Eastern Michigan has a stranglehold on the all-time series between the two teams, leading 5-1 in six previous meetings. The Eagles won the first five meetings all-time, including a 9-7 slugfest in Ypsilanti two years ago, before the Mastodons came back in game two of the doubleheader to win its only game of the series by a 4-0 score, as Rachel Staschuk threw a nine-strikeout four-hitter.

In the latest NCAA National Rankings (released on Monday, March 26), IPFW's Courtney Cronin ranks inside of the top-20 in three separate categories, including 13th in sacrifice flies (3), 19th in ERA (0.93), and 20th in shutouts (5.0), as Alex Bousquet ranks 20th in times hit by pitch per game (0.34). As a team, IPFW ranks 12th in the country in ERA (1.22), 26th in won-loss percentage (.759), and 60th in batting average (.289). Eastern Michigan's Jessica Richards ranks 15th in the country in stolen bases per game (0.67), as the team ranks 73rd in the same category (1.29).
