FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team (15-9, 7-1) closed out its weekend play in the Summit League cluster on Saturday with a 4-1 win over UMKC (11-9, 6-2) and a 4-0 victory over South Dakota State (6-10, 1-4) in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Mastodons opened the day in a match against the Kangaroos where they swept the doubles and claimed five of the six singles matches.

Alex Forsyth and No. 2 doubles partner, Anita Henestrosa, picked up the Mastodons' first win when they defeated Amelie Amsallem and Suzan Lisenby, 8-3. The IPFW tandem of Raquel Vescovi and Frederique Sunstrum sealed the doubles point for the 'Dons in an 8-5 win over Madeline Schulte and Gabriela Pintos at the No. 3 slot. At No. 1, Caterina Kiefer and Marcy Huck won by an 8-6 count against Eva Dalvai and Laura Bouet.

IPFW claimed Nos. 4, 3 and 1, respectively, all in three sets to earn the 4-1 win over UMKC.

After dropping the No. 2 match, 6-2, 6-3, the Mastodons bounced back with a win at No. 4 by Kiefer. Kiefer lost her first set against Schulte, 6-3, but then earned 7-5, 6-4 victories in the following sets. At No. 3, Vescovi won 6-3 in the first set, but UMKC's Amsallem claimed the following set, 6-4. Vescovi closed out the match with a win in the third set, 6-4. In a hard fought match at No. 1, Henestrosa clinched the Mastodons' win when she took down Dalvai, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

IPFW continued to dominate in its second match of the day and didn't drop a match against the Jackrabbits.

In doubles action against SDSU, the pair of Sunstrum/Vescovi won 8-2 over Natalia Medina and Bethany Goeden at No. 3. Kiefer/Huck followed up with an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot against Jenny Blackburne and Brooke Henry to earn the IPFW's doubles point.

The 'Dons earned wins at Nos. 6, 3 and 5 to clinch the 4-0 victory over the Jackrabbits.

Forsyth dominated the No. 6 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anna Botzet, while Vescovi won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 over Henry. Kiefer closed out the match against SDSU when she defeated Medina, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 5 position.

IPFW will return to action tomorrow against St. Bonaventure, which is Senior Day for Forsyth, Sunstrum and Vescovi. Match time is set for 10 a.m. at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
