Softball Shut Out Against Bison

GAME ONE BOX | GAME TWO BOX
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For just the second and third time this season, the high-powered IPFW offense was held in check, scoring no runs in either game of a double header against the Bison of Lipscomb, falling 8-0 in five innings in the opener, and 2-0 in the afternoon finale.
The opener saw the teams play to a scoreless tie through the first two and a half innings, before the Bison put up three runs in the third inning on a two-out three run home run.
IPFW, which managed only three hits in the game, and no more than one hit in any inning, gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a three-run home run, as the Bison closed the door in the run-rule victory, the first time IPFW has been run-ruled since March 4, 2011 against tenth ranked California.
Ashleigh Bousquet was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while Alex Bousquet was 1-for-1 with a walk.
Megan Flenniken picked up the loss, going the entire four and two thirds of an inning and allowing eight runs; however, due to three Mastodon errors, none of the runs were earned. She struck out three and walked four in the contest.
The nightcap saw the Mastodons total 10 hits while allowing just two; however, the Bison used their pair of hits productively in the 2-0 win.
The Mastodons looked as if they were going to jump ahead early in the game with three singles by the first four batters of the game; however, a pop-up and a groundout ended the threat.
Lipscomb answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, providing both of the team's two runs in the game.
IPFW had at least one hit in six of the seven innings of the game, but could not push anyone across in the two-run loss.
Mackenzie Ritsema was 3-for-4, and Larissa Franklin went 2-for-3 for IPFW, as five others (Alex Bousquet, Ashleigh Bousquet, Courtney Cronin, Cassie Wolfe, and Stephanie Beuther) had one hit apiece.
Miranda Kramer went the complete game, striking out five and walking six while scattering the two hits in picking up her first collegiate loss, falling to 3-1 on the season.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, March 10, when the squad plays host to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in each squad's 2012 Summit League opener.
