Softball Set for 2012 Home Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons open their 2012 home season on Saturday and Sunday with a home-opening Summit League series against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

ABOUT IPFW
IPFW comes into this weekend after seeing its 10-game win streak snapped at the hands of Lipscomb on Wednesday afternoon, falling in a pair of games.
For the season the squad is led by Alex Bousquet, who is batting .477 on the year (21-for-44) while Mackenzie Ritsema (.358) and Ashleigh Bousquet (.327) are each over .300 for players with more than 30 at-bats on the year.
Courtney Cronin has a team-leading three home runs, and is tied for the team lead in RBI's with Ashleigh Bousquet with 15, while Alex Bousquet is close behind with 13. Kayti Hanson has scored 15 runs and Alex Bousquet 14, while Hanson also paces the team with three stolen bases.
All three IPFW pitchers have ERA's below 2.00, led by Courtney Cronin (1.01 ERA) and followed closely by Miranda Kramer (1.52) and Megan Flenniken (1.54). Cronin is 6-1 with 35 strikeouts, while Kramer is 3-1, also with 35 strikeouts, and Flenniken 3-2 with 29 strikeouts.
ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits come into the weekend having won their last two games, and four of their last six after starting the season 0-4.
Morgan McCabe paces SDSU with a .333 batting average (3-of-9), while Tina Winter is hitting .300 (6-of-20). Winter, Emily Weber, and Devon Reick each have scored four times, while Weber has a team-high two home runs and seven RBI's. Pam Nicholson has the team's only stolen base, while Weber has a slugging percentage of .593, highest on the team by nearly 150 points.
Nicholson leads the four-person pitching staff with a 2-2 overall record and 2.07 ERA in 23.2 innings of work. Kori Seidlitz is 1-3 this season with a 4.38 ERA in 24 innings, as Mindy Lorimor and Alex Landon are a combined 1-1 with six strikeouts in 18 innings.

IPFW holds an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The squads first met on March 12, 1998 in Pensacola, Florida, when both schools were members of NCAA Division II, and SDSU picked up a 4-0 win. Eight years later the teams met again in non-conference play, with the Jackrabbits winning 8-0. Since then, the teams have met ten times, with IPFW holding an 8-2 advantage, including a 9-1 win in the Summit League Tournament in 2010, and a series sweep a season ago in Sioux Falls.
QUICK HITTERS
• Courtney Cronin's two shutouts this season give her 25 for her career, which is not only the most in IPFW softball history by a wide margin (second highest is five), but is fourth-most in Summit League softball history, and is seven shutouts behind third place, current Western Illinois head coach Holly (Killion) Van Vlymen.
• Cronin also currently ranks in the top-20 in Summit League history in wins (8th/51), strikeouts (9th/446), saves (10th/5), winning percentage (13th/.645), and ERA (16th/1.89).
• Also ranked among the all-time Summit League bests is IPFW designated player Cassie Wolfe, who has 23 career home runs, the active Summit League career leader and ranked 10th in league history, and 20th in career slugging percentage (.526).
