
McHugh Sets School Record at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – The IPFW women's track and field team competed in the 2012 Raleigh Relays over the weekend. The two-day meet was held at Paul Derr Track on Friday and Saturday. More than 2,000 collegiate and high school athletes competed in what is one of the largest track and field meets in the nation. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Theresa McHugh broke her own school record in the javelin at the Raleigh Relays with a throw of 127-2 (38.77m). She finished in ninth place overall. Kaylin Taylor also broke a school record over the weekend. Taylor placed 32nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.35. She narrowly broke the old time of Brooke Newman set in 2007 (1:06.57)
Kayla Zink and Courtney Bowen were two of IPFW's top performers in the field events. Zink placed fifth in the first flight of the shot put event with a throw of 39-8.75 (12.11m). That distance placed her 20th overall.
Zink recorded another fifth place finish, this time in the first flight of the discus event. Her throw of 134-8 (41.04) landed her in 15th place overall. The top competitor for IPFW in the discus was Courtney Bowen. Bowen took eighth place overall with a distance of 146-10 (44.75). It was her best mark of the outdoor season.
Sarah Hutchings was the top IPFW finisher in the 5000-meter run. She finished the day with a third place finish in Section III with a season-best time of 17:32.66. Also running the 5000m over the weekend was Amaya Ayers. Ayers was in Section V. She finished seventh with the time of 18:46.40.
Kaylin Taylor was active for the 'Dons in the sprint events. She won the ninth heat of the women's 100-meter preliminaries with a season-best time of 12.79. However, she did not qualify for the finals and would land in 49th place overall.
Nicole Urdahl and Theresa McHugh also ran the 100-meter dash. Urdahl finished in 13.85 (73rd overall), while McHugh was close behind at 14.17 (76th overall).
Kayla Boyes ran in the Section II of the women's 3000-meter steeplechase event. She ended the day in seventh place with a time of 11:53.89. Sarah Hutchings was in Section I of the steeplechase event. She placed with a season-best time of 10:54.30. Hutchings is closing in on the school record of 10:47.29 which is held by Crystina Martinez.
Rebecca Jacobs was in action for IPFW in the women's 10,000-meter run. She placed 38th clocking in at 40:12.99.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Kaylin Taylor, Olivia Trimble, Nicole Urdahl and Theresa McHugh placed 19th at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 53.47.
The 'Dons put a 4x400 meter relay team in action over the weekend. Taylor, Julie Jeszenszky, Urdahl and Emily Craig ended the meet in 29th place with a season-best time of 4:13.29.
Hutchings, Boyes, Jordan Tomecek and Jeszenzsky placed 10th in the 4x1500 meter relay. The group crossed the finish line at 20:36.15.
