Mastodons Place 10th at the Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Mastodons recorded 24.50 points at George L. Rider Track over the weekend to earn a 10th place finish in the Miami Invitational. Sarah Hutchings scored points for IPFW on the track, but a majority of the points came from the field athletes.
Miami posted 191 points as the host school to take the overall win. Western Michigan (121.50) and Kent State (99.50) rounded out the top three. A total of 18 schools were represented on the women's side.
Sarah Hutchings scored eight points for the Mastodons in the 5000-meter run. She placed second overall with a season-best time of 17:24.96. Jodi Hoekstra of Calvin won the race with the time of 17:18.65. Hutchings also lowered her best 1500m time of the season with a 13th place finish on Saturday. She ran 4:43.02 at Miami, breaking her time of 4:54.37 set in Cincinnati.
The Mastodons got another second place finish after Teresa McHugh competed in the javelin throw. McHugh secured eight more points with a throw of 132-1 (40.25m). She edged out Jessica Rowland for the second spot as Rowland threw 131-5. McHugh once again broke her own school record in the event. She has improved in each meet this season.
Katy Moore scored points for IPFW as she tied for sixth place in the high jump event. Four-student athletes including Moore cleared 5-1.75. It was Moore's best height of the season, replacing the 5-0.25 mark set in the Early Bird Relays.
Kayla Zink picked up two points for the 'Dons in the shot put event by setting a new school record. Zink's third attempt of 41-7 (12.67m) put her in seventh place. Zink added five more points to the IPFW total as she landed in fourth place in the discus throw. Her last attempt of the day was her best (147-11 / 45.10m).
Kaylin Taylor was extremely busy over the weekend as she competed in the 100m, 200m and 400-meter dashes. Taylor placed 21st in the women's 100-meter dash. She ran in the third heat and posted a time of 13.12. Courtney Hodgen also competed in the 100m. Hodgen was close behind in 25th crossing the finish line at 13.83. Taylor ended up in 24th place in the 200m and 11th in the 400m. Her 200-meter dash time of 26.74 is the fastest of any Mastodon this season, while her 400m time of 59.16 was also a season-best.
Julie Jeszenszky recorded her best time of the season in the women's 800-meter run. The sophomore placed 18th overall with a time of 2:19.69.
