Women's Tennis Tops Chicago State 6-1

CHICAGO - The IPFW Mastodons defeated the Chicago State Cougars on Sunday afternoon, 6-1, in Chicago, Ill.
The win improves the 'Dons to an 18-9 overall record (7-1 Summit League). IPFW has won six-straight matches now, which includes yielding only five points to the opposition.
In doubles play, the Mastodons earned the doubles point after picking up wins at Nos. 2 and 3 for the early lead over the Cougars.
At No. 2, the IPFW pair of Anita Henestrosa and Alex Forsyth won by an 8-6 count, while Frederique Sunstrum and No. 3 doubles partner, Raquel Vescovi, won in dominating fashion, 8-1.
The 'Dons only dropped one match in singles, picking up wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
Henestrosa earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 1 slot. At No. 2, Vescovi picked up a 7-6 (3) win in the first set but followed with a 6-4 loss. However, Vescovi bounced back in the third set with a 10-5 win.
In another three-set match at the No. 4 spot, Caterina Kiefer won 6-2 in the first set at but was then topped in the second set, 6-4. Kiefer outlasted CSU in the third en route to a 10-8 win.
On court five, Sunstrum claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Forsyth didn't drop a point as she won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.
The Mastodon netters will return to action on Wednesday (April 18) at 4 p.m. against Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
