IPFW Falls 5-2 to Ball State in Regular Season Finale

MUNCIE, Ind. - In the conclusion of regular season play, the IPFW Mastodons fell 5-2 to the Ball State Cardinals at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center in Muncie, Ind., on Wednesday en route to an 18-10 dual season record.

In doubles play, the Cardinals picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 3 to earn the doubles point. At No. 1, the IPFW duo of Marcy Huck and Caterina Kiefer lost in a 9-7 battle. Alex Fosyth and Anita Henestrosa won by an 8-4 count at the No. 2 slot, while the Mastodon tandem of Raquel Vescovi and Frederique Sunstrum fell 8-4 at No. 3.

The 'Dons picked up two wins in singles at Nos. 3 and 4. Vescovi won 7-5 in her first set at the No. 3 slot, followed by a 6-2 win, while Kiefer won 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.

IPFW will return to action in Kansas City, Mo., at the Summit League Championship. The Mastodons (7-1) will be the No. 2 seed and will face the No. 3 seed and host school, the UMKC Kangaroos (6-2), in first round action on April 27 at 10 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
