Mastodons Record Three First Place Finishes at Dave Rankin Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The women's track and field team competed in the Dave Rankin Invitational over the weekend. This two-day event was hosted by Purdue University.
More than 400 student-athletes from nine schools competed over the two day invitational. Friday's action began at 3 p.m., while Saturday's events started at 11 a.m.
Katy Moore took first place in the women's high jump event. Moore recorded her best height of the season by clearing 5-3 (1.60m) to earn the win. Her best performance heading into the weekend was 5-1.75.
IPFW got another first place victory as Theresa McHugh ended the day with a first place performance in the javelin throw. McHugh's final throw was her best of the day. She recorded a distance of 127-1 (38.75m) to win first place over Purdue's Kaitlyn Brace. Madelaine Bacyznski also competed in the javelin for IPFW. She placed seventh with a throw of 86-11.
Kayla Zink placed eighth overall in the women's hammer throw. Her distance of 133-11 (40.83) was her best throw of the season. Zink also competed in the shot put. She ended the day in 10th place with a throw of 38-11.75 (11.88m).
Both Zink and Courtney Bowen participated in the discus event. Zink was the top finisher for IPFW, claiming sixth place with a throw of 146-11 (44.79m). Bowen was close behind in seventh with a toss of 145-10.
Many Mastodons competed in the 5000-meter run. Sarah Hutchings was the top finisher, clocking in at 17:43.42. Jordan Tomecek and Amaya Ayers also finished in the top ten. Tomecek placed sixth with a time of 18:07.01. Ayers took ninth place overall at 18:53.80.
Hutchings was also the top performer for IPFW in the 1500-meter run. She placed sixth with a time of 4:43.49, which nearly beat her season-best time of 4:43.02.
Nicole Urdahl recorded her fastest 100-meter hurdle time of the season at 17.15. She finished 11th overall. In the 400-meter hurdles, Kaylin Taylor was the top IPFW performer with a fifth place finish. She crossed the finish line at 1:05.54 which breaks the school record that she previously held (1:06.35).
Emily Craig and Olivia Trimble finished back-to-back in the 400-meter dash. Craig landed in ninth with a time of 1:04.39. Trimble took 10th with the time of 1:05.06.
Kaylin Taylor, Madelaine Bacyznski, and Olivia Trimble took part in the 100-meter dash. Taylor led the group with a seventh place finish (12.84). Trimble ended the day in 10th (14.17) while Bacyznski landed in 12th (14.48).
IPFW had the top two finishers in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Kayla Boyes finished in first with the time of 11:51.01. Julie Jeszenszky recorded a second place finish at 12:00.12.
IPFW has two different meets on the schedule for next weekend. Some student-athletes will compete in the Gina Relays, while other will be at the Butler Stan Lyons Invitational. The Gina Relays are on Friday, April 27. The Stan Lyons Invite will be held the following day. The 'Dons will use the weekend to prepare for the Summit League Championships which are held May 10-12 in Fargo, N.D.
