Mastodon Netters Win 6-1 over Flyers

DAYTON, Ohio - In their lone match of the weekend, the IPFW Mastodons defeated the Dayton Flyers, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio to collect their fifth-straight win.
The Mastodons (17-9, 7-1 Summit League) swept the Flyers in doubles action to start the match with the 1-0 lead.
At the No. 1 position, the IPFW pair of Marcy Huck and Caterina Kiefer earned an 8-3 win while Alex Forsyth and No. 2 doubles partner Anita Henestrosa won 8-2. Frederique Sunstrum teamed up with Raquel Vescovi for an 8-1 win at the No. 3 slot.
The win at doubles was just the momentum the Mastodons needed as they won five of the six singles matches over the Flyers in straight-set wins.
Henestrosa (No. 1) and Kiefer (No. 4) both earned 6-1, 6-2 wins, while Vescovi played the No. 2 position where she dominated the match, 6-0, 6-2. At the No. 5 slot, Forsyth didn't drop a point where she won 6-0 in both sets. Sunstrum won by a 6-3, 6-0 count on court No. 6.
The lone loss of the match for the 'Dons came at the No. 3 spot. Huck won her first set, 6-4, but then fell 7-6 (4), 15-13.
IPFW will return to the courts on Saturday (April 14) in a match against Chicago State. Match time is set for 3 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
