
Mastodons Win No. 1 Doubles at BSU Fall Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's tennis team wrapped up their first fall tournament of the season by competing in the Ball State Fall Invitational. The team of Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer highlighted the weekend by winning the No. 1 doubles bracket.
The duo of Henestrosa and Kiefer went 2-0 on Friday after beating teams from Cleveland State and Chicago State. They went undefeated in No. 1 doubles action on Saturday as well by taking down two Miami (OH) teams. IPFW defeated the team of Thurman and Nohan to advance to the championship match. Guerazzi and Raymond of Miami (OH) challenged the Mastodons in the championship, but Henestrosa and Kiefer won the match 8-4. The team of Guerazzi and Raymond defeated Miloslava Shustova and Theresa Neumeyr of IPFW 8-4 to advance to the championship match.
Kristine Lindal nearly won the tournament in No. 4 singles. Lindal defeated Rodriguez from Ball State 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the championship match. She was upended in the finals by Costea of Miami (OH). Costea won the match 6-0, 6-3.
Caterina Kiefer returned to No.1 singles action on Saturday after going 2-0 on Friday. Kiefer faced Mohan of Miami (OH) in the semifinals and was defeated 6-3, 6-0.
Marcy Huck was also alive in the winner's bracket for IPFW in No. 3 singles. Huck recorded wins over Lloyd from Chicago State and Moore from Ball State on Friday, but was taken down by Thurman of Miami (OH) in the semifinals 6-1, 6-0.
The Mastodons will return to action by competing in the Bowling Green Invitational on Sept. 21-22.
