ALL-TIME SERIES
UMKC leads the all-time series between the two teams by a 4-1-1 margin. The Kangaroos won the first three meetings by a combined 12-2 score in 2001, 2007, and 2008 before IPFW got its first win in 2009 by a 3-2 score in double overtime in Fort Wayne. The next year, back in Kansas City, the 'Roos got their revenge with a 4-1 win, before the teams played to a 3-3 double overtime draw in Fort Wayne, bringing the series in the last three games to an even 1-1-1 record.
NOT AS BAD AS IT SEEMS
While IPFW's 0-8 record at first glance is unsightly, when you dig deeper, it tells the tale of a squad that is better than its record shows. Of the eight losses, just two have come against teams with losing records this season. Three of the opponents - Xavier, Dayton, and Western Michigan - are either ranked or receiving votes in the NSCAA Soccer Poll, and three - Xavier, Marshall, and Pittsburgh - have yet to lose this season. In all, IPFW's opponents through the first eight contests of the season have a 38-16-5 record, a win percentage of .703.
SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS
UMKC comes into the Summit League portion of its season with a 1-4-2 record, having beaten only Baker by a 2-1 score in Kansas City.
The squad has been out-scored 13-4 this year, and has one goal each from Jordan Rideout, Mo Ramahi, Tom Gaus, and Broc Cramer. Rideout, Ramahi, David Sarabia and Michael Oakley have the team's four assists. While the record seems a little gaudy, the squad a 1-1-2 record in the last four matches, including a scoreless tie.
Defensively the 'Roos have used a combination of goalkeepers, split nearly evenly, as Connor Sparrow has played in four games for 303 minutes and a 2.97 goals against average, with Kevin Corby also playing in four games, a total of 335 minutes, and a 0.81 goals against average. Corby leads the pair with 17 saves, while Sparrow has a dozen.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons come into the weekend still looking for their first win of the year, after falling 2-0 at home against the 23rd ranked Xavier Musketeers.
This season IPFW has had goals scored by Jackson Tooke, Corey Tom, and Brent Helton. Mitch Falkenstern has a team-high two assists, while Steven L'Esperence has one helper.
Sophomore Brandon Cloutier has been in goal for nearly the entire season for IPFW (716 of a possible 720), and has a 2.39 goals against average with 41 saves.
