NOT AS BAD AS IT SEEMS
While IPFW's 0-9 record at first glance is unsightly, when you dig deeper, it tells the tale of a squad that is better than its record shows. Of the nine losses, just three have come against teams with losing records this season. Three of the opponents - Xavier, Dayton, and Western Michigan - are either ranked or receiving votes in the NSCAA Soccer Poll, and two- Xavier and Marshall - have yet to lose this season.
In all, IPFW's opponents through the first eight contests of the season have a 42-24-8 record, a win percentage of .621. IPFW has also faced the nation's fifth leading scorer (Luke Spencer, Xavier, 2.13 points per game), and the NCAA leader in goals against average (Daniel Withrow, Marshall, 0.141)
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kentucky comes into the mid-week game having won their last three games, and four of the last five, out-scoring their opponents 8-2 during that span, including shutting out then-18th ranked Louisville 1-0 on the road.
Matt Lodge leads the team with four goals scored, while Tyler Riggs and Charles Pettys each have scored three times. Three others, Gabriel Conelian, Steven Perinovic, and Bryan Celis, have scored one goal apiece. Riggs leads the team in assists go give him a team-high nine points. Kristoffer Tollefsen and Jacob Kemper have each given out two helpers for the Wildcats, while Charles Pettys and Jacob Scearce each have one.
Jack Van Arsdale has been in goal for over two-thirds of the season for Kentucky, and has 18 saves and a 0.90 goals against average with a pair of shutouts. Callum Irving has played and started three games in goal for the Wildcats, and has a 2.00 goals against average with seven saves and a .583 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons come into the Tuesday evening game looking for their first win of the season, after falling in each of the first nine to open the year.
Leading the way for the IPFW offense has been freshman Corey Tom who has two goals on six total shots, which leads the team with four total points. Brent Helton and Jackson Tooke have also netted a goal this year for IPFW, while Mitch Falkenstern has a team-best two assists, with Steven L'Esperence and Jose Rodriguez each adding a helper for the Mastodons.
Defensively Brandon Cloutier has been in goal for nearly the entire season (813 of 817 minutes) and has a 2.32 goals against average with 44 saves - 11th most in NCAA Division I.
