KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The IPFW men's tennis team dropped to 0-2 overall early in the 2013 season after being defeated by Western Michigan 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the West Hills Athletic Club.
IPFW was highly competitive in doubles action on Saturday as the team nearly earned a point in doubles competition. Connor Andrews and Martin Muadi defeated the duo of Ross VanderPloeg and Marc Shideler in No. 2 Doubles 8-7 (7-5).
The Broncos won the first doubles match of the day as Stephen Payne and Jim Beckwith defeated Andres Cobos and Gerard Guell in No. 3 Doubles 8-4.
With each team earning one win, the main event turned out to be a good one as Nadin Indre and Ruben Greiner of Western Michigan played against Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas of IPFW in No. 1 Doubles. The Broncos held off the 'Dons as they earned the doubles point by recording an 8-7 win (7-5).
Western Michigan swept IPFW in singles action as Ruben Greiner took down Connor Andrews in No. 2 Singles 6-3, 6-2 to start the day. The Broncos grabbed another win with Pablo Mora defeating Joao Freitas in No. 5 Singles 6-1, 6-4.
No. 4 Singles went to Andrew Cahn who defeated Gerard Guell 6-3, 6-2 and No. 3 Singles was also won by Western Michigan as Aaron Wong defeated Andres Cobos 6-4, 6-2.
Ross VanderPloeg was victorious over Daniel Kang 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 Singles and the final match of the day went to Michael Treis who defeated Martin Muadi in No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-4.
IPFW will stay in Kalamazoo tonight to face Green Bay at the West Hills Athletic Club tomorrow at 11 a.m.
