
Toledo Edges IPFW in Women’s Tennis

Final Results
TOLEDO, Ohio – The IPFW women's tennis team took a tough 4-3 loss at Toledo on Friday afternoon on the UT Varsity Courts. Each team won three singles matches, but Toledo earned the win by recording two victories in doubles competition.
Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer played great in the season opener as each player won their singles match and as a pair they knocked off Lexy Pitt and Pia Rygh 8-3 in No. 1 Doubles. Toledo earned a point by winning No. 2 Doubles 8-5 and No. 3 Doubles 8-3.
Theresa Neumeyr and Miloslava Shustova represented the 'Dons in No. 2 Doubles. They were ultimately defeated by the duo of Mackenzie Bowman and Emily Mazzola. Katelyn Nguyen and Silvia Carvajal earned the win in No .3 Doubles by defeating Kristine Lindal and Marcy Huck.
Henestrosa gave IPFW a win in No. 1 Singles by holding off Pia Rygh. The senior won the first set 6-4 and then cruised to a 6-1 victory to give IPFW a point. It was the exact opposite for Kiefer as the senior defeated Lexy Pitt in No. 2 singles 6-1, 7-6.
The third Mastodon to record a win in singles action was Shustova as she defeated Silvia Carvajal of Toledo 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in No. 6 Singles.
The match game down to the No. 5 Singles as Marcy Huck faced off against Katelyn Nguyen. Huck won the first set 6-4, but Nguyen responded to win set two 6-3 and then ended with the biggest set of the day with a 7-5 win.
Lindal and Neumeyr were also in singles action for IPFW. Lindal lost 6-0, 7-5 in No. 3 Singles, and Neumeyr took 6-3, 6-2 losses in No. 4 Singles.
The 'Dons will return to Fort Wayne tomorrow to host Eastern Michigan in the season home opener.
