FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons led early in the second half by a 1-0 score; however, three straight Detroit goals ended the chance at victory, as the Titans held on for a 3-1 non-conference win at the Hefner Soccer Field, the team's first home match since September 6.
Detroit out-shot IPFW 20-to-13 in the match, and 7-to-3 on on-goal chances. Raphael Kotzock picked up four saves for the 'Dons, who fall to 0-9-1 on the year.
The first half saw the teams combine for 10 total shots (six for IPFW), but just one of those on goal, as the teams went into halftime knotted in a scoreless draw.
The Mastodons wasted little time in the second half, as Oscar Uyamadu scored just 2:47 into the second stanza on an assist from Jose Rodriguez, putting the Mastodons ahead 1-0.
Detroit scored an equalizer with 31:51 on the clock when Adam Bedell put a free kick just past IPFW goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock, before the Titans added a go-ahead goal a minute and a half later when Adam Bedell assisted Jason Leslie, putting Detroit ahead 2-1.
With 10:52 on the clock, the Titans added an insurance goal when Bedell found the back of the net himself on an assist from Matt Ybarra.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, October 5, when the squad hosts the Denver Pioneers in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in the second match of a women's / men's doubleheader at the Henfer Soccer Complex.
