
Mastodon Tennis Closes, Starts Tournaments on Friday

ANN ARBOR, Mich. and KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The IPFW Mastodons closed out play at the 2013 ITA Regionals, while starting play at the Western Michigan Bronco Invitational.
At the ITA Championships, both Miloslava Shustova and Mayu Sato won their consolation match of the day, Shustova topping Tori Turner of Wright State by a 6-1, 6-7 (6-7), 1-0 (10-7) score, while Sato won 6-4, 7-5 over Sydney Rider of Wisconsin.
In doubles play, the IPFW pair of Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal won 8-3 in their opening match over Bensimon and Gbadamosi of Cleveland State, before falling to the 9-12 seeded squad of Niu and Rischbieth of Northwestern by an 8-2 score.
Sato and Shustova fell in their first match of the doubles portion of the tournament, falling 8-6 to Davitaia and Ribero of Eastern Michigan. The pair rebounded to claim victory in the consolation, topping Tripolskaya and Burich of Wisconsin by an 8-5 score.
Sofia Sorokina fell in her first round match of the Silver Singles bracket to Darby Mountford of Notre Dame by a 6-3, 7-5 score, before returning for a 6-3, 6-2 win over Maxime Colen of Oakland.
The Black singles draw saw Ella Norgren fall to Katherine White of Notre Dame by a 6-2, 6-2 score, before narrowly falling to Vanessa Whyte of IUPUI by a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) score in the second round.
At the Bronco Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich., Carlota Trevino fell to Oakland's Karine Celis in the Gold draw in an injury default, and Trevino was trailing 6-0, 1-0 when the match was halted.
In the doubles top draw at the Bronco Invitational, the duo of Norgren and Sorokina won 8-5 over the Detroit pair of Fernades and Halabi, and will face the squads from Notre Dame and IUPUI tomorrow in the second and third rounds of the round-robin competition.
In the general doubles draw, Sorokina will team up with Mountford of Notre Dame in the second and third rounds of the tournament tomorrow.
The squad continues at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, September 12.
