Scouting the Cougars
The Cougars are coming off an 88-65 loss to Illinois-Chicago at home. SIUE was led by Tierny Austin who shot 6 of 11 from the field and finished with a team-high 14 points. The Cougars lone win of the season came at the expense of former Summit League school UMKC 79-76. SIUE also dropped games to SEC member Missouri and Big 12 opponent Kansas. Their schedule this season consists of eight teams that advanced to postseason play in 2012-13 (three to the NCAA, three to the WNIT and two to the WBI).
SIUE is a young squad this season with eight players on the roster who are either freshman or sophomores, but do return three starters from a season ago. Austin leads the Cougars after being tabbed as a member of the 2013-14 preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball team. She is currently second on the team in scoring averaging 13.5 points per game.
All-Time Series
SIUE leads the all-time series 10-7, including sweeping both matchups last season, 74-67 in Fort Wayne and 61-54 in Edwardsville. The Cougars have won four in-a-row, with the last IPFW win coming on February 1, 2001 in Fort Wayne. The last time the Mastodons last win in Edwardsville came earlier that season with a 76-72 game on December 2, 2000 when both schools were playing in Division II and a part of the GLVC. The 'Dons are 2-5 all-time in Edwardsville.
