Hyde, Seibert and Simmons Score 20 Points in Road Win

DETROIT - It was a day of career-high performances for the IPFW women's basketball team, as the squad extended its winning streak to three games with an 84-73 victory over Detroit.
Amanda Hyde came one assist shy of the first triple-double in program history as she finished the day with 23 points, a career-high 13 rebounds, and nine assists. Haley Seibert connected on a career-high six three-pointers as she finished with a season-best 22 points and dishing out four assists.
Ariana Simmons also finished in double figures with 21 points, all of which came in the second half, to go along with a game-high four blocks. Rebecca Bruner capped off her afternoon with career-highs in rebounds (11) and blocks (2).
The two sides traded three-point baskets to open the game before the Titans took an 11-9 lead with 14:40 to play. From there, the 'Dons would go on a 9-0 run to take an 18-11 lead with just over 12 minutes left.
After a pair of baskets by Detroit, IPFW went on another run - this time 8-0 - extending its lead to 26-14 with five minutes to play. The Mastodons hit seven three-pointers in the half as they took a 36-24 lead at the break. IPFW held the Titans to just seven field goals in the opening period.
Both teams started the second half with matching three-pointers, but it would be Detroit who would make the opening run. The hosts out-scored the 'Dons 11-3 out of the break to cut the IPFW lead to six. The Mastodon lead was cut to five with 14:25 to go, before Simmons sparked the IPFW offense. IPFW ran off a 14-0 run as Simmons went for 10 in the three-minute Mastodon streak.
The Mastodon would lead by as many as 21 points with 4:53 to play before cruising to the win.
On the afternoon, the Mastodons connected on 30-of-61 (49.2%) shots from the floor and 12-of-29 from behind the arc, as they held the lead for over 35 minutes in the game.
As a team, IPFW grabbed a season-high 48 rebounds, out-rebounding its opponent for the fourth time this season. The Mastodon defense also held Detroit to 25-of-76 (32.9%) from the floor, the second-best defensive performance of the season for the 'Dons.
It was the second win for the Mastodons in the nine career meetings between the schools, and the first on the road.
IPFW returns to the Gates Sports Center for its final game of the 2013 calendar year, facing Ball State on December 29 at 4:30 p.m., the second game of a men's / women's doubleheader.
