EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped as they dropped an early morning road game at Evansville by an 80-67 score. It was the Mastodons' third game of a four-game road trip that will come to a close on December 8 with a trip to No. 16/22 Purdue.
Amanda Hyde earned her first double-double of the season, and the second of her career, as she led all players with 32 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Hyde connected on 10-of-13 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line, and also led all players with six assists.
Haley Seibert added eight points for the 'Dons while Stefanie Mauk scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds in her first game back after missing the previous four. Ariana Simmons had another solid defensive game as she led all players with four blocks to go along with seven points and four rebounds. In all, nine different players scored for the Mastodons.
After trading the first four baskets, the 'Dons would go nearly three minutes without a point as the Purple Aces built a six point lead. IPFW would fight their way back as Simmons hit a layup with 11:18 to play, giving the Mastodons a 13-12 lead.
The advantage would be short lived, however, as Evansville scored 30 seconds later to regain the lead. Simmons would answer again to again give the 'Dons back the lead at 17-16, but it would be their last lead of the contest, as Evansville pushed ahead to a 32-24 halftime lead.
The 'Dons were unable to get into a rhythm on their three-point shooting in the first half, hitting on just one of their 12 attempts (8.3%).
Evansville started the second half on an 11-4 run, and the 'Dons were unable to recover down the stretch.
The Mastodons would not give up, cutting the Purple Aces' lead to single digits on several occasions in the finals minutes - including when Hyde hit a layup with under a minute to go to pull the 'Dons within eight - but Evansville knocked down 8-of-10 free throws in the final minute to hold off the Mastodon rally.
IPFW finished the afternoon shooting 23-of-59 (39%) from the floor, 5-of-25 (20%) from 3-point range and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the free throw line.
Evansville out-rebounded the 'Dons 12-6 on the offensive glass, leading to a 13-3 Aces advantage in second-chance points.
