UPLAND, Ind. – IPFW jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Ball State, but the Cardinals tied the game with a two-run fourth inning, and went on to defeat the Mastodons with a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth inning.

IPFW and Ball State took the field at Taylor University because the field conditions in Muncie were unplayable. The Mastodons got on the scoreboard first as Malcolm White slammed a home run to left field. White finished the day 3-for-5 from the plate to lead IPFW.

The Mastodon lead increased to 2-0 in the top of the third. Tyler Shepherd got the ball rolling with a two-out bunt single. He advanced into scoring position after a Kristian Gayday single and crossed the plate on a BSU error.

Ball State put together a great fourth inning leading off with a single followed by a double to right field. A two-RBI single from Campbell knotted the game at 2-2.

The deciding factor came down to the bottom of the ninth inning as Ball State led off with a double to left center. A sacrifice bunt moved James into scoring position and a second sacrifice bunt gave Ball State the 3-2 win.

Jason Kalber threw a complete game for IPFW. Kalber allowed eight hits, but struck out six. He walked two and all three runs were earned. He is now 0-2 on the season.
