
Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The IPFW baseball team swept a doubleheader against Bethel on Friday by recording a 16-11 win in game one followed by a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.
Game one was action packed as the two teams reached extra innings after IPFW pushed two runs across in the top of the ninth. The Mastodons stayed hot at the plate by scoring five in the top of the ninth to earn the comeback win.
Caleb Fenimore picked up where he left off last week with a 2-for-4 performance from the plate which included a game-high five RBI's and two runs scored.
Brandon Soat and Markus Kalber each recorded three RBI's and Kendall Whitman earned two in the DH slot. Tyler Shepherd and Clay Hathaway also picked up RBI's as the 'Dons won their ninth game of the season.
Five different pitchers were used on the mound for IPFW as Jason Kalber got the start, but Travis Reboulet got the win. Kalber threw the first five innings and he struck out six batters. He issued one walk and allowed four earned runs.
Danny Tursell, Kyle Sorensen, and Connor Lawhead all saw time on the hill but it was Reboulet who threw the final two innings of the game. Reboulet only gave up one hit while also striking out one batter.
After going 10 innings in game one, IPFW made quick work of the Pilots in game two winning 10-0 in just seven innings. Chuck Weaver over-powered Bethel by throwing a complete game. He only allowed two hits and he struck out six.
IPFW scored two in the first and two more in the second. After scoring one run in the top of both the fourth and the fifth, IPFW poured it on with four more runs in the seventh.
Shepherd hurt Bethel at the top of the IPFW order going 3-for-3 from the plate. Markus Kalber also put together a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 in the nightcap.
The Mastodons hit three home runs in the game as Kalber, Hathaway and Kevin Wirth all went long. Wirth picked up four RBI's with one swing of the bat as his grand slam put the game out of reach.
IPFW will return to action with a game at Victory Field on Monday in Indianapolis. The Mastodons will face Anderson at 6 p.m.
