BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The IPFW Mastodons and Bowrling Green Falcons split a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, with the 'Dons winning the opener 6-4 before falling in the nightcap 7-1.

Audrey Mintari and Megan Flenniken each picked up three hits, with Ashleigh Bousquet picking up two while scoring twice on the day.

Bowling Green (24-18) came out firing to start the game, as a walk and a single to the first two batters started the action, and a double-steal put the wheels in motion for a two run single, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead.

The advantage would hold for the next three innings, before the Mastodons (24-12) awoke from their offensive slumber to score six runs in the top half of the inning, utilizing timely hits and a trio of Falcon errors.

Kayti Hanson and Audrey Mintari opened the inning with back-to-back infield singles, before Hanson scored on a fielding error put in play by Hillary Kartman. A Larissa Franklin bunt single scored pinch-runner Taylor Gordy Prescott to tie the score at two runs apiece. After a strikeout, Ashleigh Bousquet reached on a fielding error by the BGSU shortstop, allowing Kartman to score.

With runners on the corners, Ashleigh Bousquet took off and stole second base, with Franklin scoring on the throw to put the Mastodons ahead 4-2. After another strikeout, Megan Flenniken singled to right field, scoring Ashleigh Bousquet. A double by Alex Bousquet put runners on second and third, with Hanson reaching on a fielding error by the second baseman, scoring Flenniken, and giving the Mastodons a 6-2 advantage.

A Shook home run in the bottom of the sixth inning cut the IPFW lead to two at 6-4, but that was all that the hosts would get, as the 'Dons held on for the two-run win.

Flenniken was 3-for-4 on the day with a run scored and RBI, while four other players had one hit apiece, and each of the team's six runs came from different players.

Miranda Kramer struck out 14 over the seven innings of work, giving up four hits and four runs, improving to 17-6 on the year.

In the afternoon finale, the Falcons put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run, and never trailed again in the game. Bowling Green scored once more in the fourth and twice more in the fifth before the Mastodons were able to squeeze a run across when Ashley Bousquet hit a one-out double, was moved to third on a groundout, and scored on an error by the Falcon pitcher.

An insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for BGSU was the final run of the game as the Falcons evened their record on the day to 1-1.

Ashleigh Bousquet and Mintari were each 2-for-3 in the nightcap, with Bousquet scoring the team's only run. Megan Flenniken picked up the loss, falling to 6-6 on the season by pitching the entire six innings, striking out seven and scattering five hits and giving up six earned runs.

The Mastodons return to action on the weekend when the squad travels to Brookings, S.D. to take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
